Practice Dressage Test

As part of our latest training, we had to learn a dressage test to perform in front of Jane and Vicky, who is training to become a British Dressage judge and therefore it was a very useful opportunity to be marked on our test as if we were in a competition.

I have only had Beau for two months now, and although we have made considerable improvements, we are very much still working on the basics of flatwork and self-carriage. I thought that trying to put the work we have done so far and piece it together into a dressage test would be helpful to highlight areas that we need to further work and focus on.

Doing the test and watching it back over video did indeed highlight that we have a lot further to go before we can perform a well balanced test. An overall improvement in strength and self-carriage is needed (a work in progress) but the most obvious areas which need improvement are our transitions, particularly into canter and getting the correct bend and balance around corners and on circles.

This is a useful starting point, and I aim to take regular videos of our flatwork and running through dressage tests in order to look back and make comparisons of our improvements over the next few months.
